FACTLOCK ECOSYSTEM · MOBILE LIVE CAPTURE + DESKTOP ARCHIVE COMMAND

If someone alters your evidence,
can you prove what the original was?

Preserve a verifiable original before the story changes. FactLockCam protects the original photo or video you capture on your phone and creates a signed record of its exact contents, anchored on Polygon when the phone is online. A small proof opens in the browser. A large proof opens in the free FactLockFile desktop Viewer, coming for Mac, Windows and Linux once each version is tested.

“If an important piece of evidence you have is later disputed by an altered copy, how do you prove you have the original?”

Create your first 5 records free on iPhone & Android.

Original media stays encrypted in your on-device Archive. Media is never uploaded or stored by FactLockCam. Polygon stores a fingerprint of the signed record, never your photo, video, or document.

Polygon Manifest Digest

Commits the 32-byte manifest digest to Polygon and exports self-contained .flcproof packages.

The Essential Product Insight

Why an uncontrolled copy fails—and why your preserved .flcproof original stands.

Media handled by messaging services, claim portals, format converters, metadata processors, or image tools can be changed in transit—even when it looks visually identical. A cryptographic exact-byte hash cannot survive those transformations. FactLock is built around preserving and authenticating your protected reference original.

Three-stage evidence dispute walkthrough: Preserve the Original, Disputed Copy Diverges, and Authenticate the Preserved .flcproof Reference
  1. STAGE 01 · BEFORE THE DISPUTE

Preserve the Original & Public Commitment

A claimant captures property damage in FactLockCam (or seals a contract in FactLockFile). The app computes the exact-byte SHA-256 fingerprint, signs the canonical manifest, anchors the 32-byte manifest digest on Polygon, and retains the encrypted original in the Archive.

    Protected .flcproof reference created
  2. STAGE 02 · MONTHS LATER (THE CHALLENGE)

A Portal or Counterparty Copy Diverges

Months later, an insurer, agency, or opposing party presents a different-looking or re-encoded version and questions the evidence. Because external portals recompress files and strip headers, uncontrolled copies regenerate a different SHA-256 hash (media_hash_mismatch).

Different bytes ≠ proof of who changed it
  3. STAGE 03 · AUTHENTICATE THE REFERENCE

    Produce the Retained .flcproof Original

The claimant produces the retained .flcproof package from their Archive. The examiner opens it locally at factlockcam.com/open and independently validates its exact media fingerprint, signed manifest, and earlier Polygon transaction—establishing what was preserved before the dispute.

File · Signature · Public Record verified

Two Instruments · Explicit Trust Boundaries

Live capture on your phone today. Desktop Archive and file sealing later.

One shared cryptographic philosophy across distinct acquisition boundaries. Mobile FactLockCam is strictly a live camera so field photos carry capture-time provenance. FactLockFile Workstation, coming later as a paid desktop app, will manage your Archive and seal files you already have.

Cryptographic & Evidentiary Precision

Exact mechanisms and honest boundaries—no overclaims.

Marketing claims must be backed by reproducible functionality. FactLock separates what cryptography proves from what still requires human facts and chain-of-custody records.

What a Passing Verification Check Proves

  • The protected file inside the .flcproof package matches the exact SHA-256 byte fingerprint recorded in the signed manifest.
  • The capture record was signed by the owner key, a software key held in the phone's secure storage. It also discloses the phone's device key class, which is hardware-backed where the phone has it.
  • When anchored online, the 32-byte manifest digest existed on Polygon no later than the verified transaction block.
  • Any byte-altering edit, recompression, or metadata strip on another copy will produce a different SHA-256 hash.

What Verification Does Not Claim

  • Does not prove the photographed physical scene was true or that a document’s text is factually accurate.
  • Does not independently attest a person’s identity, device clock, or GPS reading (time and GPS are device-reported; Polygon provides the public existence-time bound).
  • Does not prove a file was unaltered before the capture or desktop import trust boundary.
  • Does not prove why a third-party copy has a different hash or who modified it, and does not promise that a court will accept the file.

SHA-256 Exact-Byte Fingerprint

A one-way cryptographic hash function that produces a 32-byte commitment to exact file bytes. SHA-256 does not encrypt files, generate keys, or store a recoverable copy of your media.

AES-256-GCM Authenticated Encryption

Encrypts and authenticates your original media inside your local Archive (.seal) and inside shared .flcproof packages (derived via PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 with 210,000 iterations).

Signed Manifest Digest vs. Media Hash

FactLock signs a canonical JSON manifest (ProofManifest v1) containing the media SHA-256, byte length, MIME type, UTC timestamp, owner address, and device key class. The 32-byte SHA-256 digest of that manifest—not your photo or document—is anchored on Polygon.

How This Relates to C2PA Content Credentials

C2PA supports both embedded metadata and external manifests, though embedded headers are often stripped by messaging apps and upload portals. FactLock pairs a public Polygon manifest digest commitment with an owner-held encrypted .flcproof package containing the preserved reference bytes.

Rigorous evidentiary claim: “This protected file matches the exact bytes identified by the signed capture record, and that record’s commitment existed no later than the verified Polygon transaction.” Verifies the exact file and signed record—not the physical truth of the scene.

Verify it yourself

FactLockFile desktop Viewer · coming

Large proofs

A proof is large when the photo or video inside it is 25 MiB or more. A large proof opens in the free FactLockFile desktop Viewer, coming for Mac, Windows and Linux once each version is tested.

The Viewer will be free and need no account. It will open a .flcproof file on your computer, take the unlock key, and show the file, the signature, and the public record as three separate results. It will play the media on your computer and will be able to save the checked copy. Media is never uploaded or stored by FactLockCam.

  • Small proofs open in the browser at factlockcam.com/open today.
  • A large proof arrives as two files: the .flcproof proof and a note named factlockcam-unlock-key.txt. You do not create a password. When the note is in the same folder as the proof, the Viewer will fill in the key.
  • Have a large proof now? Save both files in the same folder and keep them. Without the key, the file cannot be opened.
  • FactLockFile Workstation, the planned paid desktop app, is separate. You will not need it to open a proof.

Each download goes live only after that version is tested.

01 If someone alters my file, how does FactLockCam help me show what the original was?
When you capture a photo or video in FactLockCam, the app keeps the exact original encrypted in your Archive, seals its SHA-256 fingerprint into a signed capture record, and anchors a fingerprint of that record on Polygon when the phone is online. If a later copy is compressed, stripped, or edited, you send the original as a .flcproof proof. A small proof opens in the browser at factlockcam.com/open. A large proof opens in the free FactLockFile desktop Viewer, coming for Mac, Windows and Linux once each version is tested. The file, the signature, and the public record are checked separately, and media is never uploaded or stored by FactLockCam.
02 How do FactLockCam and FactLockFile fit together?
FactLockCam on iPhone and Android is the camera, and your first 5 records are free. The FactLockFile desktop Viewer will open large proofs. It will be free, will need no account, and is coming for Mac, Windows and Linux once each version is tested. FactLockFile Workstation is a planned paid desktop app for managing your Archive and sealing files you already have. It is coming later and is not in any plan today. Checking a proof is never a paid feature.
03 Why doesn’t a re-saved or portal-uploaded copy match?
An ordinary file copy that preserves all bytes keeps the exact same SHA-256 fingerprint. However, messaging apps, email gateways, format converters, and insurance portals routinely re-encode images or rewrite metadata headers—changing the underlying bytes even when the picture looks identical. That is why retaining the protected original inside a .flcproof package is essential.
04 What is the difference between a live capture and sealing an existing file?
FactLockCam makes the protected original at the moment you press the shutter. FactLockFile Workstation, when it is available, will make a protected reference when you import and seal a file you already have. It makes no claim about that file's history before sealing. Workstation is coming later and is not in any plan today.
05 Does checking a proof upload my photo, video, or file?
No. A small proof opens at factlockcam.com/open, which decrypts and checks it in your browser. A proof is large when the photo or video inside is 25 MiB or more. A large proof opens in the free FactLockFile desktop Viewer, coming for Mac, Windows and Linux once each version is tested. It stays on your computer. Media is never uploaded or stored by FactLockCam. The public-record check looks up only the Polygon transaction.
06 Does a passing check prove the scene was true or promise that a court will accept the file?
No. A passing check proves that the protected file matches the exact bytes identified by the signed capture record and that the record’s commitment existed no later than the verified Polygon transaction. It does not prove the physical scene was true, attribute who altered another copy, or promise that a court will accept the file. Times shown come from two places: the phone's own clock, which no one else checks, and the Polygon block, which shows the record existed no later than that block.
